Tradition. Innovation. Customer Proximity.

The Salamander brand looks back on an eventful history: As a family-run corporate group, we are still rooted in the Allgäu region and place a high value on innovation based on the needs of our customers.

Ahead of Its Time

Through direct customer contact in its own shoe stores, Salamander early on recognized the importance of sensory perception, which can be created through quality materials and the design of holistic product experiences, making it far ahead of its time.

Jakob Sigle – Founder of the Later Salamander AG

He was a pioneer in the industrial manufacturing of shoes and a true innovator through the vertical integration of his own shoe stores. For him, the spirit of invention and the desire for progress were the core principles of his company.

Leather Fiber Material

Since 1919, the heel material "Melvo," which consisted of leather fibers, cellulose, and resin glue at that time, has been manufactured. As early as 1936, Salamander began using the specially produced leather-like leather fiber material in shoe counters and insoles. This decades-long production experience, along with continuous optimizations of product properties, still forms the basis for our unique material experience worlds today. We constantly improve these materials, further develop them for new application areas, and supply customers worldwide.
